About

One studio.
One pilot.

WebPilots is a one-person technical web studio in Toronto, run by Jeff McKean. No account managers, no hand-offs, no ticket queue — the person you talk to is the person who engineers your site, designs it, and answers when something needs attention a year later.

The studio exists because small businesses get served two bad options: cheap template sites that look fine and quietly fail — slow, invisible on Google, broken forms — or agency engagements priced for companies ten times their size. The gap in the middle is real engineering at small-business scale, presented with design that earns trust on sight.

The name is the method: a pilot doesn't just get you airborne — they file the plan, check the instruments, fly the route and land the thing. Projects here run the same way: concept, build, launch, care, with you knowing where you are at every waypoint.

How we work

Four rules,
no exceptions

Measured, not promised

Speed and search visibility are numbers, not adjectives. Every build is tested with Google's own tools before launch, and the scores on our work pages are the real ones.

Nothing along for the ride

No page builders, no plugin stacks, no themes carrying ten features you never asked for. Everything in the build is there because your site needs it.

Design is not a coat of paint

Technical excellence that looks generic still loses customers. Type, layout and photography get engineering-grade attention too — the design is the part your customers actually see.

Explained in plain language

You'll never be told 'it's technical'. Every decision — platform, structure, trade-offs — is explained in words a busy owner can act on.
