A printmaker's site rebuilt for gallery-grade image quality and speed

Where it started

Sarka Buchl Stephenson is a Toronto printmaker and painter working in monoprints, relief prints and drypoint, alongside oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings. Each print is hand-pulled and unique, and the site needed to hold up large, colour-accurate images of that work without the load times that usually come with an image-heavy portfolio.

The build

A static Astro site with every image optimised at build time, so galleries of prints and paintings load quickly regardless of how many pieces are on a page. The layout keeps the work itself as the focus, with clear sections for commissions, workshops, and prints and paintings for sale.

The result

A perfect 100 for performance, SEO and best practices, and 96 for accessibility, on a site carrying dozens of full-resolution artworks.
